Localization (L10n) is the process of adaptation of software, a website or any other product to a specific market, defined as a combination of language and region or country (this combination is called a locale). This process can require a wide range of linguistic, cultural, visual and technical modifications. For example, when localizing a website, you may have to resize the user interface elements, such as buttons, message windows and input forms, in order to accommodate changing text sizes. Moreover, localization requires focusing on such region-specific elements as currency, date and time formats, and the structure of phone numbers. If you use photos of people, you may need to hire local models and align their clothing and body language with the target audience. When you adapt a website, a marketing brochure or a software application for new markets, translation may be the most visible aspect of the process, but it is just one aspect, and sometimes the one easiest to accomplish.
